Talking Courage, caring and a sense of humor

When I was a child in a small, southern Oregon town in the early 1960's, I got my first experience with racism when a black family was blocked from moving onto our street due to heavy pressure on the local realtor. I remember being excited at first (there was a girl in the family my age and we'd played a bit already), then horrified at the talk from my neighbors. As a result of everything, the family ended up moving to another town. It changed me.

So, I've been saddened to see the racism boiling up in the media as of late. I ran across this video; it renewed my faith that one person with some courage, caring, and a sense of humor can make such a difference. This made me smile tonight.

Hi Karen,

Sorry you had to lose a friend in that deal...never should have happened.

My take on the race issue is that people just haven't "got it" yet. I
truly believe that 95+% of this country is, indeed, "color blind"...but BOTH
sides of the issue have to let go their prejudices before we can ever progress
away from this mess. So long as people are so quick to point fingers
we'll never get away from the racial strife.

Worlds gotta learn that..People are just that...People. Makes no difference what
color they come in.
